HOUSTON—Flying bullets narrowly missed a baby Friday morning when four suspects, who may have been impersonating officers, opened fire in a northwest Houston apartment complex, according to Houston police.

It happened at the Sir Charles Apartments in the 10000 block of Hanka around 11 a.m.

Police said the suspects were wearing what appeared to be police uniforms when they started shooting into one of the units.

A woman and baby were inside at the time and one of the bullets struck the wall just a few inches above the baby’s head.

An apartment resident heard the gunshots and came outside to investigate.

He walked up to what he thought were police officers to ask what was going on, but instead of getting answers, he was attacked. One of the suspects punched him in the head, then they all fled the scene.

Police said a man who lived in the apartment where the woman and baby were was the intended target.
