HOUSTON – Arson investigators were called to a building fire early Wednesday in east Houston at a business that was raided for illegal gambling.
According to the Houston Fire Department, it was around 3 a.m. when they were called to E. Mount Houston at Ashworth.
They found heavy flames shooting from a brick and metal warehouse. The roof caved in before firefighters could put the fire out.
An HFD investigator told KHOU 11 News the building was the scene of an illegal gambling raid on Tuesday, and someone already tried to burn the building down once before.
HFD said Houston police made several arrests Tuesday and confiscated some merchandise. Investigators said there were several 8-liner video slot machines in the warehouse.
