HOUSTON -- Even a store that takes serious security precautions isn't safe from determined robbers. Khurran Quershi learned that lesson first hand as he opened a convenience store in northwest Houston Monday morning.

Quereshi works in one of those little shops where the cashier works the register behind thick glass, collecting cash from customers and passing change through a slot at the bottom of a window.

With half-dozen surveillance cameras feeding into a monitor mounted in plain sight to discourage criminals, the store has more cameras than a basic professional television studio.

Still, clerks can't spend all day behind bullet-proof glass.

As he opened the store, Quereshi noticed a couple of suspicious men in the parking lot of the store at 10330 Bammel North Houston. An instant after he unlocked the door, one of the men grabbed him in a headlock and dragged him into the store.

"They grab me from the neck," Quereshi said. "They have a pistol. They're drawn on me and they keep telling me, 'I'm going to shoot you. I'm going to shoot you. Where is the money? Where is the money?'"

The money, of course, was behind the glass. Surveillance video shows the gunmen pulling Quereshi into the area behind the cash register, where they shoved him aside to clean out the cash drawer. After about three minutes, Quereshi said, they got away with about $500, some cigarettes and his tablet computer.

"I could have done something else, you know," Quereshi said. "I mean, I could have run and closed the door, but I mean, it happened so quick that, I mean, that you cannot think anything else."

Anyone with information on the robbers can call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, which offers rewards of up to $5,000 for anonymous tips.
