HOUSTON -- A grocery store employee refused to become a victim early Thursday morning as she was stocking shelves at a Kroger in the 4000 block of Polk.
Four men had broken in through the front door of the southeast Houston store with a crowbar. There were about a half dozen employees who were inside at the time.
The suspects began to round them up and confiscate their cell phones so that no one could call police.
One woman, however, remained undetected at the back of the store and used her cell phone to call 911.
Police were in the area.
“They saw the vehicle leaving, the vehicle led them on a short chase for a couple of blocks,” said Sgt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department. “Then the four males jumped out. We established a perimeter and used a canine and we located all four suspects and they’re in custody.”
Investigators say the suspects were after cigarettes. They did not have a gun, and no one was hurt.
