HOUSTON – The man shot and killed in southeast Houston late Wednesday night was a “good guy” who never bothered anyone, friends said.
The Houston Police Department said it was around 10:15 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a shooting on Schroeder Road at Griggs Road.
Police said when they got to the scene, several men went running in different directions. They managed to catch at least two of them and took them into custody. Police found the shooting victim, a middle aged man, lying in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
“There were just two shots,” a witness told KHOU 11 News. “I mean it was just a ‘pow pow.’”
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
“They told me they killed my friend,” said neighbor Robert Smith. “That was my friend, and that’s why I walked over here.”
Police said the victim lived in the area but not at the apartment complex where he was shot. The man apparently held several odd jobs and sometimes panhandled.
“He was a good guy. He didn’t bother no body," said Smith.
Homicide investigators are questioning the men who were taken into custody. No suspects were named.
