HOUSTON – A Good Samaritan helped save a toddler who was left in a hot car over the weekend.

According to the Houston Police Department, another driver spotted the child in the backseat of the car in the parking lot of a shopping center in the 9800 block of Bellaire and called 911.

This happened around 7 p.m. on Saturday.

It’s believed that the 1-year-old had been in the car 20 minutes before she was rescued.

Police said her mother, 28-year-old Violeta Chavez, left the child in the car while she went shopping.

Chavez is now in custody.

The child’s father now has custody of the little girl.
