GALVESTON, Texas--Galveston County hasn’t seen an annual homicide rate in the single digits in at least the last four decades. That could change this year if the downward trend continues.
The dip in the county’s homicide rate coincides with a 4 percent overall decline nationwide in violent crimes reported in 2011 as compared to the previous year, according to preliminary figures released by the FBI.
As of Friday morning, the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office had eight countywide deaths recorded as homicides this year.
