HOUSTON – The man who left a toddler alone at a McDonald’s in northwest Houston Monday night has been charged with child abandonment, according to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies.
Charles Godfrey, 32, dropped off the 2-year-old girl at the McDonald’s at the corner of the Eastex Freeway and Little York around 7 p.m., deputies said.
Deputies said Godfrey, who is the boyfriend of the child’s mother, sat the toddler at a table and left.
Employees immediately called 911.
The girl appeared fine but was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
About an hour later, Godfrey returned to the McDonalds looking for the child. He was then taken into custody.
According to records, Godfrey has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1998.
