FORT BEND COUNTY – A Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a mentally ill man who threatened him with a knife Monday evening, according to authorities.
It happened at a home in the Sunrise Meadow subdivision, located just south of Richmond off FM 2977.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a suicidal person who had barricaded himself inside a home in the 7000 block of Dawn Bloom around 5:45 p.m.
When the deputies entered the residence, they were confronted by Michael Blair, 26, who was holding a knife. The deputy attempted to subdue Blair with a taser, but to no avail. In close quarters, Blair allegedly advanced toward the deputy who shot and fatally wounded Blair.
The deputy involved is an 11-year veteran with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
The Internal Affairs Division of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation of the incident.
Family members said Blair suffered from schizophrenia.
