HOUSTON—A 2nd grade teacher from Harvard Elementary has been charged with indecency with a child.
According to a letter sent home to parents, the incident happened three years ago but was just reported in October.
According to documents, Miguel Yepez repeatedly molested an 8-year-old girl in his class at the school located in the 800 block of Harvard Street.
The little girl said Yepez touched and rubbed her private parts repeatedly when he would stand near her desk in the classroom. She said it started at the beginning of the school year in September 2011 and did not end until the following May, when school was over. She was able to demonstrate the behavior with a doll during a forensic interview, investigators said.
The school principal says Yepez was reassigned to non-classroom duty away from campus after the allegations surfaced. School officials said they are now working to find a replacement for his 2nd grade class.
Yepez is out on bond, but didn’t answer the door when our news crew knocked.
Raul Hernandez is Yepez’ neighbor and said he was surprised to hear the news. He knows Yepez as a family man with two young sons who is always willing to help neighbors.
”We just found out,” said Hernandez. “He’s always outside playing with them football or anything. We just found out. It’s really shocking”
Campus officials told parents in a letter that the student safety is their top priority.
