HOUSTON—A Harris County deputy was placed on leave Thursday after she fatally shot a man in front of his family in southeast Houston.
It happened at about 6:20 p.m. at the deputy’s residence located at Oakmoor and Airport.
Investigators said a 22-year-old man was arguing with his mother and grandmother in a third-floor apartment unit when the two women fled down the stairs to the second floor where they knew a Precinct 4 deputy constable lived. The women went to the unit to hide and the man followed them and kicked in the door. That’s when the deputy opened fire, investigators said.
HPD responded to the scene. More family members also came to the scene and were overcome with emotion.
“Very rough night, right before I got the call here they called and said my auntie had passed, then they called me and told me my cousin was shot and killed tonight,” said Clifford Randle, the shooting victim’s uncle.
The deputy constable has a young son who was also in the unit at the time. It was not clear, what or how much of the shooting he saw.
The family had told the shooting victim he had to move out and that is how the dispute started.
