HARRIS COUNTY – Authorities are searching for a man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend late Saturday night in northwest Harris County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said that at approximately 10:30 p.m., Maria Covarrubias, 31, and her boyfriend were sitting on the couch talking in a residence in the 14100 block of Cornerstone Village.
During the course of the conversation, her boyfriend pointed a handgun at her and shot her, deputies said. Covarrubias died at the scene from her injuries.
The victim’s boyfriend, known only as “Melvin,” fled the scene after shooting Covarrubias, deputies said. The motive for the shooting is not known.
The suspect is described as a Honduran male, 5 feet 2 inches tall, thin built and with dark colored short hair.
