HOUSTON – A woman was shot to death Tuesday afternoon in what appeared to be a case of road rage, Harris County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies said the victim was found at about 1:40 p.m. on the ground next to her red Ford Explorer. It was parked at the Korner Food Mart in the 13100 block of Bissonnet at Synott in southwest Harris County.

A witness followed the suspected shooter, who was in a Mercury Marquis, to the Ashford Place Apartments in the 3800 block of Synott.

“The witness flagged down a Houston Police Department unit and a female was detained,” said Sgt. Ben Beall.

He said road rage may have been the motive, but it's too early to know for sure.

“From what we understand, somebody was cut off, got into an altercation, they pulled into the parking lot, the argument continued and one of the persons pulled out a pistol and shot the other one,” Beall said.

The woman in the Marquis was questioned and released. The case will be referred to a grand jury.
