GALVESTON, Texas — A pastor testifying Friday in a beer shoplifting-turned-robbery trial didn’t have to tell the jury how he learned of a parishioner’s arrest when the defense attorney invoked the clergy privilege rule.
The Rev. Shawn Plant was testifying Friday in the punishment hearing of David Angel Ramos, 42, who was convicted Thursday of robbery in a Jan. 15 incident at Kroger, 5730 Seawall Blvd., in Galveston, prosecutor Brandon Sims said.
Ramos was accused of loading a shopping cart full of beer and bypassing the cashier on the way out the front door.
