HOUSTON – A Deer Park father has been arrested after having his three children living in unimaginable filth, according to authorities.
Ransom Davis is charged with endangering a child.
Davis was once in the Navy and currently a postal worker who is married with three children; ages 13, 8 and 3. Deer Park police say the way he lived with the kids was disgusting.
According to documents, the children were living in the home filled with animal feces, urine, trash and shards of glass. His estranged wife, however, defended him.
“My husband is an outstanding person, lived a great life, great career,” said Elisa Hernandez. “Been an honest, great, great dad.”
A CPS worker came to visit their home and found the deplorable living conditions. Police say their 8-year-old son also had easy access to a pellet gun.
“There are BB guns, but that’s my 8-year-old son. He got them for Christmas,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez allowed KHOU 11 News inside the home. She said after she moved out, Davis had a hard time adjusting.
“We went through a separation three months ago, and so he’s not used to having to clean the house by himself. He’s trying to be my children’s best friend and letting them run around instead of being the disciplinary one.”
Hernandez further defended Davis, explaining that he has a hard time getting around after he fractured his ankle.
But police are not accepting that excuse, they say this is the second time in two years that Davis has been arrested for the same thing.
Hernandez said Davis was at a loss when his mother passed away in 2011, during which time, she was trying to get herself on her feet from being a stay-at-home mom. But now her focus is on the kids.
“My goal is, if I clean this house, they get to come right back home. I don’t want to look past that, it scares me,” Hernandez said. “I don’t think I can cry any harder than I have. That’s why I’m not taking these sunglasses off. My eyes are very swollen.”
