HOUSTON – A person of interest in connection with a double-homicide was shot Sunday afternoon by police at a gas station in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle at about 3:30 p.m. in a parking lot behind a gas station located on West Airport Boulevard near Hilcroft Street.
When they arrived, police recognized a Dodge Dakota truck related to the shooting deaths of a mother and her son Saturday in southwest Houston.
Police approached the driver of the truck, who then got out of his vehicle. The man reached for a gun and began firing shots at police. HPD returned fire on the man.
During the shootout, one of the officers noticed that a woman and two children were caught in the crossfire. He ran over and helped them to safety.
Police were able to wound the suspect, who has been identified as Keith Turner. He was taken to Hermann Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound.
Homicide detectives had been looking for Turner, whose mother and younger brother were found, shot to death Saturday in their home in the 7100 block of Bahia Lane near Blue Ridge Road. Both victims were shot multiple times.
Turner was just a person of interest and had not been charged with any crime.
