HOUSTON — Copper thieves continued to wreak havoc at a north Houston church over the weekend, where congregants were hoping surveillance video might lead to an arrest.
“We have made three police reports and now it’s happened again, “said Reverend Jassiel Gonzalez who serves as pastor of the Centro Cristiano Church near I-45 and Tidwell.
Copper thieves have struck the church three separate times in the space of a year.
The most recent attack occurred early Saturday morning, when a thief dismantled three large air conditioning units.
“These units were for the main fellowship hall and now we don’t have any more,” said Gonzalez.
Frustrated by the thefts, church officials installed a video surveillance system last month.
The video images of the thief who struck over the weekend could provide investigators with their best clue yet.
The church has insurance but replacing the units will still cost in the thousands of dollars.
“And that’s what my heart is about. Because this is the money of the people who came to the church and it’s gone.”
