CONROE, Texas – A suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted two women within six hours of each other has surrendered, according to Conroe police.
Otis Samuel Ray Mitchell is charged with aggravated sexual assault.
Police said on October 12, Mitchell approached a 22-year-old woman in the 900 block of Bellshire around 9 p.m. and asked to borrow her cell phone. Once he gained her trust, he grabbed and sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to escape and ran for help, while the suspect fled the scene.
A few hours later, a 40-year-old woman said she was in the 1100 block of S. Seventh around 3 :15 a.m. when a man asked for a cigarette. He then asked to use her bathroom.
Once inside her apartment, he threatened and sexually assaulted her. He stole some of her personal items, then took her vehicle and fled the scene. The stolen vehicle was recovered by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Both women gave similar descriptions of their attacker. Evidence led officers to identify Mitchell.
The attacks left women in the area shaken.
"Scared knowing that I’ve got children and that people are like that. People are out here like that," Misty Garza said.
"You can’t go to your vehicle without feeling unsafe. You can’t go to your mailbox. You can’t send your child outside," Charlotte Yeager said.
"I mean ladies be cautious when you’re getting in your car or getting out your car," advised Key’yochie Johnson.
Mitchell has family in Montgomery County. Some residents in the area said they’d seen him around before.
Now they hope they never see him again.
