HOUSTON (AP) -- A Coast Guard petty officer from the Houston area must serve more than three years in prison and repay $617,000 for misuse of government credit cards.

A federal judge in Houston on Monday sentenced 29-year-old Petty Officer 2nd Class Brandon Lee Scott of Dickinson.

Scott in February pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government property. Investigators say Scott in June 2011 used a government-issued credit card to spend nearly $2,700 on a 55-inch high-definition television and two electronic tablets.

Angela Dodge with the U.S. attorney’s office says prosecutors linked Scott to about $617,000 in electronic items illegally bought using government credit cards. Dodge says the items were then resold by Scott.
