CLEAR LAKE, Texas – Residents at a complex in Clear Lake are fed up after waking up Monday morning to find their cars scratched and tires slashed.
It happened sometime overnight on Memorial Day at the El Dorado View Apartments.
More than a dozen people there said they were targeted at random. Those who were victimized believe the total amount of damage is in the thousands.
“I was thinking, is it personal? Then we saw everybody else’s vehicles,” said Edith Retana. “They think they can do what they want to do, and it’s not right.”
Residents told KHOU 11 News they have been dealing with vandalism for the last year.
“I’ve seen cars spiked up, tires slashed, cars keyed. I’ve had a truck stolen,” said Nick. “This is out of control.”
A group of frustrated residents recently pitched in to set up surveillance cameras in a different part of the complex.
The cameras captured a man apparently slashing tires last month. However, the recent slashing and scratching spree was not captured on video.
“How are we going to fix it? We don’t know. No one is going to help us. We’ve got to work twice as hard to get this fixed,” said Berta Soto.
Houston Police took a number of reports on Monday morning, but many residents doubt the vandals will get caught.
Residents believe the complex should consider installing gates and surveillance cameras around the complex as well as hire more security.
The apartment complex management was not available for comment due to the holiday.
