BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – A pair of suspects led authorities on a chase that came to an end on prison grounds south of Houston, deputies said Friday.
A witness tells KHOU 11 News the Walmart on FM 518 near Highway 288 was robbed shortly after 4 a.m.
According to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, a female suspect was caught shoplifting. When approached by workers, she said she had a gun and then fled the scene.
The woman got into a car with another person and then allegedly led deputies and Pearland police on a chase for about 30 minutes. It finally came to an end outside the Darrington Prison Unit along FM 521.
Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident, and no injuries were reported at the Walmart.
The sheriff's office said the suspects weren't from the Houston area and may have not realized they drove onto prison property. One of them was taken to the hospital to get checked out after deputies said he or she may have been under the influence of some kind of narcotic.
The investigation into the alleged crime is on-going.
