HARRIS COUNTY – Harris County deputies captured a chase suspect Thursday who spent nearly six hours hiding in Greens Bayou.
The suspect sped away after a traffic stop Thursday around 11 a.m.
"Citizens were getting complaints of speeding, things along these lines, so we conducted a traffic stop," said Thomas Gilliland with HCSO.
The suspect led deputies on a chase through east Harris County.
He crashed his Ford Explorer into a sewer line near Wallisville and Greens Bayou, sending raw sewage spewing everywhere. He then jumped into the water and disappeared.
John Calderone, a wrecker driver, said he saw the guy in the water.
"I saw him swimming along the edges of the river," Calderone said. "He hid in some bushes. From there, we didn't see him anymore."
HCSO’s marine joined the search Thursday afternoon. They pulled the suspect out of the bayou and arrested him. He was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.
"I never seen anything like that, so it was cool," Calderon said.
Deputies searched the SUV and round drugs and thousands of dollars, according to HSCO.
The suspect's name hasn't been released.
