HOUSTON -- A 28-year-old man who shot and killed another man during a robbery on August 6 has been officially charged, according to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies.
Keith Dewayne Dillingham was charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Alexander Segura.
Segura went to pick up a female companion from the Camden Steeplechase Apartments on Jones Road around 2:30 a.m. The two were going to grab a bite to eat.
When they reached the parking lot, two suspects approached their vehicle.
One of the suspects had a gun.
The armed suspect opened the woman’s car door, grabbed her by the hair and demanded money. The woman said she got a good look at his face. The other suspect went to Segura on the driver’s side.
The armed suspect then walked over to Segura, snatched him out of the vehicle and began searching inside. The suspect found Segura’s gun inside the glove box and said “Look, this is a real gun,” according to court documents.
The armed suspect then began to threaten to harm the woman, but Segura told him he would have to go through him first.
The men began to struggle.
The suspects took off on foot and Segura chased behind them.
The woman lost sight of them between a set of buildings, then heard gunshots. She ran and found Segura lying on the ground.
Segura was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
After the composite sketches of the suspects were released, investigators received a tip that one of the men was named “Dillingham.” Investigators arranged a photo lineup and showed it to the female victim.
She, without hesitation, identified Keith Dewayne Dillingham as one of the men involved.
Charges were filed and no bond was issued.
