KINGWOOD, Texas – A man is behind bars after carjacking a woman then leading police on a high speed chase from Kingwood to Humble Friday night, police said.

According to the Humble Police Department, it all started in Kingwood at a Walgreens store located in the 1200 block of Kingwood Drive. The suspect hijacked the car while a woman was trying to return a DVD to a Redbox kiosk outside the store.

Later, HPD officers spotted the stolen car near Humble and tried to pull it over, police said. The suspect fled at a high rate speed and police chased him all the way to FM 1960 at Lee Road.

The suspect then jumped out of the car near AW Jones Elementary School and ran into a subdivision, police said.

It took police dogs and a chopper to finally track him down. The pursuit lasted for about 30 minutes.

Investigators believe this suspect is part of a group that’s responsible for several recent carjackings in the Kingwood area.
