HOUSTON –- Three men in a stolen Volkswagen Jetta were arrested following a chase in northwest Houston overnight, police said.

Officers with the Houston Police Department said they were called to The Heights around midnight Wednesday after several residents called to report vehicle break-ins.

An HPD unit in the area spotted a red Jetta that came back as reported stolen, and the officer attempted to pull it over. Police said the suspects, however, didn’t stop.

The suspects led police to Highway 290 and through several side streets and neighborhoods before the chase finally came to an end about 15 minutes later. Police said the getaway vehicle got a flat tire, and the four men inside jumped out and ran.

Three were caught at the scene, but police said the driver got away.

There were concerns the escaped driver forced his way into a nearby home, but a search never turned up the individual.

“I have work tomorrow -- I’ve lost sleep because of this,” said a resident, who wasn’t happy about being forced out of bed by police. “I even had to be handcuffed and placed in the car.”

Police said the three men taken into custody face felony evading charges as well as possible burglary of a motor vehicle charges if investigators can link them to any of the The Heights cases.
