HOUSTON, Texas—The owner of a west Houston hobby store is hoping surveillance video will help catch a man who attempted to steal a high-end model car.

”I felt in my gut something was wrong with this guy,” said Jarrett Crump, the owner of RC Hobbies on the Katy Freeway.  “He said he needed a ride, his brother was supposed to meet him here, he gave us a sob story.”

Crump and his employee called the man a cab and even gave him $20 for a fare.

The man then repaid him by grabbing a $600 model car and running outside the store, he said.

Crump and a customer chased the crook out of the business. The man got away after tossing the remote controlled car up on the roof of a nearby IHOP.

The incident was caught on surveillance camera, but police said there wasn’t much they could do unless the suspect was identified.

So the business owner has plastered the man’s face on social media and on posters, and is also offering a $250 reward.

Crump is asking anyone with information to email him at houstonwest@rc-hobbies.com.  He’ll forward the information to detectives.

”I want this guy caught,” said Crump. “It makes me mad.”
