HOUSTON -- A child is safe after a woman carjacked his mother’s car Wednesday afternoon in northeast Houston.

Houston police say it all started around 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 8700 block of Curry Road when a mother stopped by a relative’s house to pick up her children.

Officials say the mother put the 3-year-old son in the car and strapped him in his car seat. The car was off but the keys were inside. The mother then went inside the home to get her other child when a woman got into the car and drove off.

Police say the woman drove a few blocks away and abandoned the car in a parking lot in the 8500 block of Schuller Street. The woman got out of the car and ran away.

The boy was in the car for about 20 minutes before he was found.

As a precaution, he was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.

Officials are still looking for the suspect. They describe her as a black, heavy set female with light brown skin. She’s believed to be between 28-35 years old, has a butterfly tattoo on her neck and was last seen wearing a white tank top.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call police.
