BELLAIRE, Texas – Police are trying to track down robbers targeting people in upscale neighborhoods even threatening their lives just to get their cell phones.

The first victim was a woman out for a jog down Alder Drive, a street lined with trees and beautiful homes. The second mugging happened just 20 minutes later, less than two miles away.

A 15-year-old boy was walking his dog on Wedgewood Drive near 610.

In both cases, the victims described a small, white, older car, possibly a Honda Accord or Civic, pulling up.

They said one man jumped out wearing a bandana over his face. Both victims said he pointed a gun at them and demanded their cell phones.

The second victim said the gunman threatened to shoot him and his dog if he didn’t give up his stuff.

The victims said a second man stayed in the car and after the muggings they both took off.

Neighbors on Alder say this is a common route for a jog or dog walk, but these two crimes so close together have them thinking twice.

“It scares me because things like that just really don’t happen in this neighborhood, and there’s so many people walking down Alder all the time,” Janice Stevenson said.

“This is the most heavily armed area in the whole city. No it’s not a problem,” Steve Hogan, another area resident, said.

Bellaire Police are asking for help to solve this – calling on anyone with information, or anyone with surveillance cameras that may have caught the muggings to give them a call.
