HOUSTON—Authorities have made the first step toward charging a Montgomery County man with a horrific murder, 15 years after a little boy was set on fire.
Back in 1998 Don Collins was accused of dousing his neighbor Robbie Middleton with gasoline, setting him on fire, and leaving him for dead.
Middleton survived, but died two years ago of cancer caused by skin grafts. Before he died, Middleton made a deathbed accusation that Collins had sexually assaulted him two weeks before the attack.
Authorities have been working on the case ever since. Now the Montgomery County attorney is asking that Collins—who was 13 at the time -- be certified as an adult so he can face murder charges.
