KENDLETON, Texas – Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a shooting incident involving a store owner and a possible intruder in Kendleton early Sunday morning.
At about 3:30 a.m., deputies arrived at Belle’s Country Store, located in the 13500 block of Highway 59 South in regard to a shooting incident.
The owner of the store said he had been sleeping inside the store due to an earlier attempted burglary. He said he was awakened by someone breaking into his business.
He stood up and saw a man pounding the window with what he believed to be a rock. He grabbed his handgun and shot three times. He was unsure as to whether any of his three shots hit the suspect.
Investigators said he immediately called 911.
Later, deputies were contacted by Rosenberg police officers who had been called out to the Waffle House on Highway 59 in Rosenberg concerning a man with gunshot wounds.
A wounded 24-year-old man at the Waffle House was wearing shorts and no shirt. He said he had been shot at a location near Highway 59 and Grunwald Road, which is east of Kendleton.
Investigator said he was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was treated for two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He is listed in stable condition.
The case is under investigation and will be referred to the grand jury.
