HOUSTON—Police were on the lookout early Wednesday for a crook who robbed a Waffle House in southeast Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, no shots were fired, but the armed robber took cash from the restaurant’s register before making his escape.

HPD said the robbery occurred at the Waffle House on Almeda Genoa near the Gulf Freeway around 3:30 a.m.

Witnesses said a man in his late 30s or early 40s walked in with a gun and demanded money from the register. Once he had the loot, they said he calmly walked out and across the parking lot. It wasn’t clear if the man escaped on foot or got into a getaway car.

Investigators said surveillance video at the store may have gotten a good look at the suspect’s face as he was not wearing a mask. Witnesses said the man was wearing a blue hoodie and had a stocky build, dark skin and a short goatee.

A cashier named Edgar told KHOU 11 News he was the one confronted by the robber. He believes the man didn’t carry out the crime alone.

“He probably had someone, probably got dropped off,” said Edgar. “Told the person to meet him there—did his thing and probably got picked up I guess.”

No injuries were reported in the holdup.
