HOUSTON – An Amber Alert issued Friday afternoon for a 9-month-old Houston girl was cancelled after the suspect turned himself in.
Houston police said Quoc Vuong, who abducted 9-month-old Nhi Buong, surrendered at the HPD storefront near the intersection of Bellaire and Ranchester. He was taken into custody.
Authorities said the 9-month-old victim was recovered unharmed.
Police said the suspect was Nhi Buong’s mother’s boyfriend.
According to authorities, the incident started Friday afternoon when Vuong threatened to kill himself if the victim’s mother, Tran Nso, ended their relationship. When Nso got tired of arguing, she took the child to a family member or friend’s home. Vuong found where Nso went and grabbed the victim and left. He then called Nso multiple times throughout the day, threatening to kill her daughter before taking his own life.
Vuong and the child had last been seen in southwest Houston around 1:50 p.m. Friday in a white 2002 Honda van with Texas license plates JXF-846
Police found the van about 4:30 p.m. in the Hong Kong City Mall parking lot in the 11000 block of Bellaire. At the time, authorities could not find either Vuong or the victim.
Authorities believe the pressure of the Amber Alert caused him to turn himself in.
