Police: 2 Galveston girls located; Amber Alert cancelled

GALVESTON -- An Amber Alert has been canceled for two Galveston girls who went missing Friday night.

Galveston police said 6-year-old Tiana Duarte and her sister, 10-year-old Makayla Duarte, were dropped off around 9 p.m. Friday at their grandmonther's apartment on Cove View Boulevard.

Officials have not said who dropped the girls off.

Their mother, Marisol Duarte, is believed to have taken them earlier in the day. She is still on the run.

Duarte was last seen in Galveston picking up Tiana at Parker Elementary School at 69th and Jones Drive, according to investigators. Makayla was picked up at Busy Body Day Care at 6904 Lasker Drive at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Police say Marisol Duarte lost custody of the girls and has a history of drug use and mental health issues.

Officials believe Duarte is driving a light, olive green, 2011 Mitsubishi Galant. There is no license plate number available at this time.
