HOUSTON –- Police said an altercation between two brothers led to a SWAT standoff northwest of downtown Houston late Thursday.

The standoff was reported around 8 p.m. in the 1800 block of Silver Street, according to officers with the Houston Police Department.

Initial reports indicated the suspect's brother was the one who called police. He told officers he ran from the home after his brother became angry and started throwing things. He said his brother, angry over a missing cell phone, even tried to choke him.

Police said the suspect, armed with a gun, stayed inside the home after his brother left. A SWAT team was positioned outside, and after about four hours, they got the man to surrender without further incident.

Police said he faces assault charges.
