HOUSTON -- A traffic stop led to a drug bust on a Houston freeway early Tuesday after police found marijuana packed into a piece of construction equipment.

Officers first spotted a truck hauling an excavator on Highway 59 near Beltway 8. The driver was eventually pulled over, and the excavator was taken to an area near the Houston Police Department station at Washington Avenue and Houston Avenue.

Police brought in a torch, crow bar, and a grinder to open up panels along the excavator’s boom, and that’s where they found 60 bricks of marijuana.

Further details about what tipped them off to the vehicle were unknown.

Check back for updates to this developing story.
