HOUSTON — Three suspects were arrested Thursday after they allegedly tried to hold up a Family Dollar store in southwest Harris County.
A person ran into a neighboring McDonald’s around 8 a.m. to report the robbery in progress at the store in the 13500 block of Beechnut. Restaurant employees immediately called 911.
As Harris County Sheriff’s deputies were approaching the scene, one suspect who was in the getaway vehicle took off. His accomplices came out to find him gone.
“He took off, the police got here and started chasing him. The other two guys got out with bags full of money and they were looking for that other guy (the getaway driver),” Angie Maldonado said. “They started pointing at us with the gun and they jumped the fence.”
The getaway driver led deputies on a brief chase before crashing into an innocent driver on Bellaire and Synott.
“I was just praying that he really wasn’t going to hurt anybody. There’s been all this news of high-speed chases lately of people running from the police and I said ‘Oh, no, here goes another one,’” Kurt Mayer said.
The driver who was struck appeared to be okay but remained in her van following the crash.
All three suspects were captured.
