HOUSTON -- A teenager found his young brother and his father’s girlfriend dead, and his father critically injured Monday night in a shooting at their southwest Houston home.
Police said the 14-year-old boy came home around 7 p.m. in the 6600 block of Westwick. He found his 10-year-old brother and his father’s girlfriend lying next to each other in the corner of a bedroom.
Police said they believe all three victims were brought upstairs in the townhome and each shot at least once in the head.
The teenager ran to his uncle’s nearby house to call police.
Brandon Vu and Le "Lena" Nguyen, 29, were pronounced dead at the scene. Hoai Tranh Vu, 40, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
A neighbor reported hearing a gunshot around 3:30 p.m., but a 911 call didn’t go out until a couple hours after that, police said. Neighbors said they saw two suspicious looking men standing by the family’s garage around the time the gunshots were heard.
Investigator said the garage doors were open when they arrived, but it didn't look like anything was taken from inside the home. HPD believes the shootings may be related to drugs.
Neighbors said the family moved into the home about a month ago.
As of early Tuesday morning, police investigators were still at the home looking over the evidence.
Neighbors told police two men in a gray passenger car were seen driving away in a hurry.
“Right now we’re getting calls starting to come in on a possible vehicle that was at the scene matching the description, so things are developing as we speak,” said Sgt. Robert Torres.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
