NEEDVILLE, Texas -- Two Houston-area men have been arrested on burglary charges in an alleged run-out-of-fuel scam using a stolen gas can.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office says Cody Andel of Guy and Hermann Ephran of Wharton were nabbed before dawn Tuesday. No bond was immediately set as both face court appearances Wednesday.

Authorities received a call about somebody in the Needville area who had a gas can and was ringing doorbells for help. Deputies located two men in a nearby vehicle. Both said they ran out of gas.

Deputies spotted lawn and garden items in the back seat, then checked with people whose doorbells were rung. Deputies learned at least one home was burglarized and determined the missing items were in the suspects’ car.

The gas can was also stolen.
