DALLAS -- A Dallas man is being charged with manslaughter after he fatally shot his sister when he was playing with a gun while drinking and high on marijuana.
On Sunday just after 10 p.m., Henry Thomas Thompson, 22, was playing with a 9mm handgun at a residence. A witness told police they told Thompson several times to stop playing with the gun.
Thompson and four other people all got into a friends' vehicle to go buy cigarettes. Thompson sat behind his sister, Karissa Flores, 18, as they pulled into a neighborhood store in the 4100 block of Westmoreland Road. According to the arrest affidavit, a popular song was playing on the radio and Thompson "began to recklessly wave [the gun] from side to side and in the air" to the beat.
The gun discharged and hit Flores in the back, through her seat. The witnesses took her to Saint Paul Hospital, where she died.
The suspect admitted to police he shot his sister while being "extremely intoxicated" and playing with his gun, according to the affidavit. He was charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
