HOUSTON—A 14-year-old boy says two burglars broke into his southwest Houston house Tuesday as he was inside alone getting ready for school.

Bryan Vanegas doesn’t always answer the door when he is at home alone, so on Tuesday morning when a stranger came ringing just after 8, he ignored it.

“About 40 times they were ringing the doorbell,” he said.

Two burglars, both in their early twenties, were on the other side, trying to figure out if someone was there.  When they didn’t get an answer, they used a chair to hop the back fence and kick their way in.

“I guess, as soon as they were like, there’s no one home, they just gave them the sign and went to the back and broke the door,” Vanegas said.

He said he was inside the living room when the intruders entered and he isn’t sure if he was seen. If he was, the men ignored it, giving him time to run to his room at the front of the home, lock the door, and hide.

But something told him he couldn’t stay.

“I checked through the shades, and then when I didn’t see nobody, I just pulled it up and ran out of the house,” he said.

As he called 911 from a neighbor’s house, the burglars fled in a black Explorer. He said they took a watch, a TV, and a Playstation.
