HOUSTON – A wild police chase that went through downtown Houston, eastside neighborhoods and a rail yard lasted over an hour Thursday afternoon.

The chase started around 3 p.m. near Almeda and West Airport in southwest Houston.

Officers threw out some spike strips at one intersection, but that didn't slow the grey SUV down.

The suspect jumped on Highway 288, but coudn't lose the HPD patrol cars that were following him.

He took 288 to the 59 feeder road and sped past Minute Maid Park before heading to I-10 Eastbound.

He nearly crashed into a stalled black pickup truck and a school bus during the chase.

The suspect drove through a rail park and on top of railroad tracks for several minutes before abandoning the vehicle.

Around 4 p.m. the suspect finally pulled over and and ran into a residential neighborhood just east of Lockwood. A police officer chased the suspect and used a stun gun to stop him.

The suspect told officers he ran because of outstanding tickets.
