HOUSTON – Authorities are searching for two suspects after an accident on the Eastex Freeway left one person dead and two in serious condition Sunday morning near downtown.

According to the Houston Police Department, a while Cadillac Deville cut in front of an 18-wheeler heading north on the Eastex Freeway near the Highway 288 interchange at 6 a.m. The 18-wheeler clipped the back end of the car causing it to spin out into the shoulder wall.

There were a total of five occupants riding in the car, police said. One of the passengers sitting n the back seat died at the scene of the accident, while two others were transported to Ben Taub Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The driver and another passenger fled the scene before police arrived. Investigators said that there were signs of alcohol in the vehicle.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured during the accident, police said.
