HOUSTON—The man accused of kidnapping a 6-year-old girl, the same day his wife was in labor, appeared in court Monday morning.

Joaquin Ramos, 23, is facing felony kidnapping charges. His bond has been raised from $50,000 to $200,000. He is not in the country legally and has been placed on an immigration hold.

Police said Ramos snatched the girl from the parking garage of an
apartment complex on Wirt Road last week. She got away from him at a nearby Target store.

Ramos was arrested at the hospital the next day where his wife had given birth to their fourth child.

So far, no motive has been given.
