ROSEVILLE, MICH. - A 14-year-old boy reportedly playing Pokémon Go died after being struck by an intoxicated motorcyclist Friday night, police said today.
According to a news release, Ryan Mannes, a Roseville High School student, was with two friends in the area of 11 Mile and Demerick Street at around 9:30 p.m. when the incident happened. At one point, Ryan reportedly entered the road in an attempt to "capture a Pokemon." As he was returning to the sidewalk, he was fatally struck by a motorcyclist traveling westbound. Ryan was pronounced dead on the scene.
The motorcyclist driver, a 24-year-old Roseville man, and his passenger, a 26-year-old Roseville woman, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Preliminary tests show the motorcycle driver had a blood alcohol content of .14, making him legally intoxicated. He is being held without bond and facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death. The Macomb County Prosecutors office will review the case and the suspect will be arraigned on Monday, according to police.
The Roseville Schools have been notified and they are making crisis counselors available for Ryan’s friends and classmates.
