HOUSTON - There are more than 5,000 jobs available to teenagers and young adults in the Houston area thanks to the Hire Houston Initiative.
The initiative was launched on April 10, 2017 by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner in an effort to provide youth between the ages of 16 and 24 the opportunity to work in a local, private nonprofit company for at least seven weeks this summer.
Those who are hired will work for the seven weeks and will have opportunities to grow in their careers. The employees will get help with interview skills, managing money, and other financial strategies.
Internships will begin on June 19, 2017 and end on August 4, 2017. The deadline to apply for the positions is Monday, May 8, 2017.
Those who apply in person at the job fairs could be hired on the spot. Positions will pay at least $8 an hour.
The following are upcoming dates and locations for the job fairs:
May 6, 2017 - Magnolia Multi-Service Center
May 20, 2017 - Acres Homes Multi-Service Center
June 3, 2017 - George R. Brown Convention Center
