WILLIS, Texas – A woman was killed and two people were injured when their truck sped off a roadway and hit a tree in Willis, troopers said.
It happened around 10:45 p.m. Sunday on Long Street Road, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS said it appeared the driver of a 1997 Dodge Dakota failed to stay on the road at a 90-degree turn, causing him to strike a tree.
A medical helicopter was called in to transport the driver, identified as Robert Kendall, to the hospital in critical condition.
A female passenger, identified as 48-year-old Sheryl Gross, died at the scene. Another passenger, 36-year-old Ronald Murray, suffered minor injuries and was sent to the hospital by ambulance.
DPS said alcohol was found in the truck, but officers said they weren’t sure if that had anything to do with the crash.
Montgomery County’s Vehicular Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation.
