HOUSTON—Houston police released surveillance video Thursday capturing the moments before a man was beaten and robbed last month.

It happened around 1 a.m. outside the I & A Food Mart at 6060 West Bellfort.

Police said two men demanded money from the victim, and when he did not hand it over, they beat him with a tire iron.

“He did have some major injuries,” Officer Jennifer Medel with the HPD Robbery Division said.

The injuries were so severe police said the 43-year-old victim was knocked unconscious. Since no one stopped to help him, he could not call for help until he woke up.

As for the robbers, they are believed to be driving a white sedan. They are in their mid to late 20s, and they stand about 5 feet 6 inches, and they each have a mustache, investigators said.

Though one of the men wore a Batman shirt, police said it was his accomplice’s head tattoos which may help get them caught.

Several posted signs at the store that night were meant to deter crime. The criminals could also not have missed a massive video monitor, front and center, by the cash register.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
