HOUSTON—The University of Houston Police Department said Friday it arrested two suspects tied to the recent armed robberies on campus.
Three robberies have reportedly taken place on campus since September 16.
Investigators say they have arrested the suspected robber, Ricardo Tangarife, nick-named "Pretty Ricky." He was allegedly identified through an Elsik high school yearbook photo from 2008.
The second suspect in custody, Anthony Theus, reportedly worked at a shoe store in Memorial City Mall where he accepted the stolen credit cards from Pretty Ricky.
A third suspect, a stripper named Sue Ortiz who works at the Millionaire Boyz Club, has been charged and is currently at large. Investigators are working to track her down.
Authorities say they have identified four more people of interest and the suspects could be part of a large criminal enterprise.
The first robbery was reported September 16. A student was robbed while walking down Holman near Scott Street, according to the Daily Cougar, when two suspects drove up in a dark four-door car and demanded the victim’s property at gunpoint. The student was not injured.
Another robbery reportedly took place the following Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. in UH parking lot 9C.
The victim told police he was putting his backpack in his car when he felt someone grab him. The robber pointed a gun at the victim’s stomach and took his wallet, iPod and phone before getting back into a dark-colored car with another man inside.
The victim later discovered the suspects had used his debit card to get $600.
Police said the latest robbery was reported just before 9 p.m. Thursday at the Bayou Oaks Apartments.
A student said he was approached by an armed man who demanded cash and valuables. When the student said he didn’t have anything on him, a struggle ensued. The suspect punched the victim in the jaw, but eventually gave up and ran away.
A special task force was formed to investigate the case after the crime spree and five more officers were added to the UH police force.
