HOUSTON — FBI agents are searching for a bold suspect who preyed on one of their colleagues at a southwest Houston gas station in broad daylight Wednesday.
An FBI agent was pumping gas when someone snatched her purse from the front seat of her vehicle. Her gun and badge were inside the purse.
The thief then jumped into an SUV that was waiting for him and got away.
It happened at an Exxon Tiger Mart in the 10000 block of Beechnut at the Beltway 8 around 10:35 a.m.
Several undercover FBI agents and HPD officers quickly swarmed the station. They’re concerned about the badge and 9-mm handgun being in the wrong hands.
"This has happened to my mom twice and she could barely get one cop there," said Bill Maddox, the ICEE serviceman.
When Maddox found out what was inside the purse, the response made more sense.
"Now I can understand why all this is out here now," he said.
Miguel Triana, a customer, said he’s not surprised by the crime.
"We are in a neighborhood where there are all kinds of problems out everywhere," Triana said. "That’s why I always lock my doors and don’t worry about anything."
Police confirm that this type of crime is becoming more common all over Houston.
Agents are checking to see if store surveillance video captured images of the crime.
