SANTA FE, Texas – A 36-year-old woman was arrested Saturday after she was accused of inflicting bodily harm to her boyfriend’s 4-year-old daughter that allegedly resulted in the death of the child, police said.
Laura Lea Kolb is charged with first degree felony injury to a child, with a bond of $250,000, police said. After police complete their investigation and an autopsy is conducted on the child, Kolb could face additional charges.
The Santa Fe Police Department said that at about 4:12 a.m. they received a frantic 911 call stating that a 4-year-old child was unresponsive.
Police and EMS responded to the call which came from an apartment in the 11900 block of 16th Street. When they arrived, they found Kevin Moore holding his daughter, Taylor.
Officers and EMS immediately began treating the child, and she was transported to Mainland Center Hospital where she was later pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m., police said.
After an initial investigation, police said that Kolb, who had been drinking, was upset at Moore. The father left the apartment to avoid conflict with the woman and went downstairs to visit friends in another unit.
Kolb had gone downstairs as well, but then went back up to the apartment. As she was walking up the stairs, she injured herself by falling on the steps, police said.
Angry and injured, Kolb apparently focused her anger towards Taylor, police said. She admitted shoving the child to the floor then throwing her on the bed.
